Posted March 16, 2012JessicaPersonalityJessica is my firstborn, now 19 and married in Provo, Utah, but summering in Austin, Texas, where her husband is interning in computer programming. Of my three children, she is the most sensitive, and intuitive. She is also sophisticated, kind, generous, and feminine. Jessica is especially tolerant of all types of people, empathetic, and nurturing. She is resilient to change in her life, but likes a plan and a routine. She always knows what I am thinking before I tell her, and what I need before I ask. As my eldest child, she always jumped in to help with anything Jacob needed, and to nurture Samantha. Jessica makes the hearts of grownups melt because she is so sweet and responsible. She is the most arranged person in the family, with an organized house, an organized closet, an organized desk, and an organized computer. She is a goal setter, perfectionist, a rule keeper, and determined. Her greatest quality is how likeable she is. My best word to describe her, though, is compassionate. AcademicJessica is a student at Brigham Young University, and a research assistant in the Department of Religion. She is a graduate of Blue Springs High School, where she was young for her grade but took an extra rigorous academic schedule that included advanced placement courses, including math and several advanced placement courses in English. She studied hard, and worked hard at everything that she does. She likes younger children and has in the past volunteered at the elementary school as a tutor both in high school and in college. Her academic talents, potential, and goals can only be met with the challenging reading, writing, and mathematics schedule that she has completely set for herself. Now, at BYU, she is excelling with her schoolwork and building strong friendships. She scored 27 on her ACT test, had a 4.00 GPA in high school, and is considered a number of majors but currently emphasizing Church History and English. She is officially a college senior at 19. ActivitiesJessica loves extra curricular activities. In the past, she has enjoyed walking, biking, and skiing, and has taken classes in gymnastics, jazz dance, ballet, swimming, diving, horsemanship, and piano. In school she has been in cross country running, honors choir, and forensics; just sampling everything. Right now, she enjoys jazz, Pilates, and hip hop. She is definitely the coordinated and articulate one in the family. A back dive that she used to do from a springboard when she had a diving coach impressed me more than it impressed Jessica. She has her own life-time membership at 24-Hour Fitness where she loves to lift weights and work out on the elliptical, or loves to take classes there, and asks to go there every day. She loves to hike in the mountains when we are traveling. She has recently run as far as 7.5 miles without stopping. Jessica has visited 21 countries, and in the summer of 2008 went to Rome and Pompeii, Italy, with me alone. InterestsJessica is also a skilled photographer, is sensibly fashionable, poses effortlessly for pictures, modestly does her makeup, and likes tastefully fashionable clothing and shoes. Jessica loves healthy food, is an organic cook, and is constantly eating fresh fruits and vegetables, checking calories, and filling up her water bottle. She appreciates clean music and has put all of my CDs onto my iPod for me because she is such an expert. She is interested in writing, researching, and teaching. She married in August 2010, so her main interest is her husband. InclinationAs a relentless reader and a writer, Jessica is thoughtful, contemplative, and creative. She describes herself as quiet, but she is certainly not shy, just thinking. She has set out to read all of the scriptures, church history, and all of the great classics, all on her own. On her own at about the age of 15, she read Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice, The Scarlet Letter, and A Tale of Two Cities all outside of school and without any requirement. She obviously has great Christian values and morals, and insists on complete temperance and purity. Her heroes include the prophets of the church. I think that Jessica was born into the world with knowledge about Christ. She wants to write historical documentaries and historical fiction. She completed her first novel in high school. FutureJessica loves archaeology and history. She also loves religious history, and wants to found a church museum some day. Right now, she wants to graduate school with her husband and then settle down to start a business with him, but that could change with her tastes. Jessica is pictured below as photographed by herself in a self-portrait
